Black Diamond Burlesque
Sarasota has many charms... a bustling downtown, a creative subculture, the best beach in the world. But Sarasota's hottest charm is a group of people who've definitely got it and are surely not afraid to flaunt it. Black Diamond Burlesque is Sarasota's Original burlesque troupe and they are celebrating their second anniversary on Sept 8th at McCurdy's Comedy Theatre.
"Like all of our shows, Black Diamond will tease our audience with new dance numbers, new vaudeville, and many surprises. But the Dames and Dandies are also reprising some of our crowd's all-time-favorites." explains producer Laura Daniel Gale, known as alter-ego Lady LaLa. "We have the added pleasure and pride of this show marking our Second Anniversary as a performing troupe."
It's been 2 full years since their first show, which was performed to a packed house at Selva Grill in downtown Sarasota. "We were bowled over by the response to our first show. Sarasota was hungry for this and they didn't even know it!," remembers Gale. "Every show since has been sold out!" With the expertise of Virginia Hughes (Miss Petite Coquette, Black Diamond's troupe leader), the ladies have worked long and hard to create a sexy and elegant stage show that stays true to the original art form which was created in the turn of the century.
Show fans will be familiar with dame Mademoiselle Rowdy Pants, an original troupe member, who will be performing. Miss Petite Coquette has promised that her now-famous bath tub routine will make an encore performance as well. The show will also feature something new for everyone with newer members Mina Munroe and Candy Muldune. Sarasota's most tattoo'd BOYlesque performer, Top Hat Dave, will also grace the stage and make sure that no lady in the audience goes unteased. This show also marks the return of crowd favorites, The Titty Sisters: Titty Bella and Titty Titty Bang Bang will be bringing sexy back with their naughty routine. Mistress of Ceremonies Vixen St. James returns from the U.K. lead you through a night of fun with Black Diamond.
"I feel like the luckiest gal in the world to express the passion of my life to an audience! I look back two years ago, and it fills my heart with such joy to see how far we've all come and that Sarasota had given us such support (and hoots and hollers)! I can't wait to show this city what I'm cooking up for the months to come!", blushes Miss Petite Coquette.
Seats are available for $20 or $30 for the best seats in the house in the VIP "glitter zone" section. Tickets are available through the McCurdy's web site, www.mccurdyscomedy.com or by calling their box office 941.925.FUNY. Show begins at 9:15 p.m.
