Mattison's and Circus Sarasota Street Party

“The Circus is coming to town!’ is an expression that we Sarasotans get to partake in year-round. Not many towns can boast that they are the home of a long-standing tradition of bringing joy and happiness to children and families around the world. Ok, Disney gives us a pretty good run for the money, but I’m willing to bet that even Tinkerbell gets impressed with a little circus magic. I mean, hey, I never heard of Peter Pan walking a tightrope across Niagara Falls during a live broadcast. Which, as everybody knows, is way more difficult than flying.
Our town’s very own circus legend, Nik Wallenda, will be doing just that on Friday, June 15th. Unless you locals plan on flying up the The Falls to catch a first-hand look, might I suggest skipping the airfare and instead coming to “Above the Falls & Beyond Belief.” This exciting, exclusive, once-in-a-lifetime street party, held by Chef Paul Mattison, executive chef and proprietor of Mattison's™, and Pedro Reis, CEO of Circus Sarasota, at Mattison’s City Grille, will celebrate The Wallenda Walk while cheering Nik on via the Jumbotron big screen live broadcast. Holy moly that was a mouthful.
This street party, which is open to the public, takes place that Friday night at 1 North Lemon Avenue, on that pretty brick road area between Main and First, right outside Mattison’s City Grille. VIP tickets are available and include a VIP Wallenda Walk Dinner Menu catered by Chef Paul Mattison and reserved VIP seating with a perfect view of the stage and the Jumbotron video screen. Proceeds from the menu benefit Circus Sarasota. Non VIP attendees will still get to partake in all the fun. Circus Sarasota will be presenting a variety of circus performances by international circus artists and youth performers from the Sailor Circus. Balloon making, face-painting, raffles, live music and dancing make for a fun night out for mom and dad. Meanwhile, there’s also going to be tightrope walking for the kids! And this is a Mattison’s event, after all, so expect some delicious food and drink specials. Drinks being a necessary component for either trying tightrope walking or watching your kids try it, of course.
The event goes from 6pm to midnight and is sure to be one of those special summer nights to remember. Umm, there is a man tightrope walking over Niagara Freaking Falls!!!! If that doesn’t make for a memorable night, then you must live a much more daring life than I do.
Seating is very limited and advance purchase required. For reservations and information call 941.921.3400 or purchase tickets for the VIP seating online at www.mattisons.com.
Check out www.mattisons.com for more on this locally owned innovative restaurant. And look up www.circussarasota.org, while you’re at it, for more on this non-profit arts educational organization.
And since you’re already sitting at your computer, you might as well prepare your Summer schedule by checking out the dates and times for the annual Summer Circus Spectacular being held in June and July at the Historic Asolo Theater.
