Robin's #ArtPick of the Week - 9/19

The movement in her brushstrokes are superb in capturing that energy and passion in their music along with those seductive browns and rich reds You can feel this rhythm as your eyes travel over the canvas.

Title: Sybarite 5 (4' X 6') Oil on Canvas
Artist: Cara Levitt
Where: Clasico

Why I chose it: When I dine at a restaurant, I'm very sensitive to the interior design. It's a beautiful marriage of culinary art and visual art and the environment punctuates our experience. Both must be in harmony with one another and this personality of a restaurant may suit our mood that very day. Clasico is a beautiful example of elegance and an approachable warmth. It's sexy with those hues of chestnut and red. Yet, sophistication is not lost. Cara Leviit's work in this painting works wonderfully here in capturing the passion and energy.

It is a painting of her brother's string quintet, called Sybarite 5. They play classical blends of popular music such as Radiohead, and Led Zeppelin. They started hosting galas in Sarasota in 2010 and she painted this for one of those galas in 2011. Last year they brought the Forward Festival to Sarasota and played with other soloists and quartets in the area.

The movement in her brushstrokes are superb in capturing that energy and passion in their music along with those seductive browns and rich reds You can feel this rhythm as your eyes travel over the canvas. Consider also, the elegance which is beautifully captured in the carriage of the musicians.

Art Pick of the Week: Doris Leeper, “Garden Sculpture 3”

A well-traveled sculpture (this is the work’s third home in Sarasota since 2000), Doris Leeper’s “Garden Sculpture 3” now quietly resides on the corner of 1st and Orange.
