Experience Sarasota: Lauren Grace Living
Our bodies can be thrown out of balance by many things. There doesn’t seem to be much that acupuncture can’t help with: pain, stress, fertility, digestion, Crohn’s disease, insomnia, depression, lack of energy, migraines, emotional overload, boosting the immune system, and even hormonal imbalances such as menopause.
I Met with Lauren Grace, a phenomenal acupuncturist located on Main Street. Her space was a calming and relaxed room set with dimmed lighting and aromatherapy scents.
Acupuncture what is it?
Acupuncture is a form of ancient Chinese medicine. It involves very fine needles being put into the skin to access energy points around the body, these are sometimes called meridians.
“It is basically a way to balance the body.” Lauren
Our bodies can be thrown out of balance by many things explained Lauren. Stress, trauma, diet and even our own environment full of pollutants and man made chemicals are some of the examples of what can lead to imbalance.
When Lauren meets with patients for the first time she fills out an extensive questionnaire with them covering all aspects of health, including: emotional, relational, sexual and financial. “We throw our bodies out of balance with all of these things” Lauren.
Does it hurt?
Of course I had to ask this question. I watched Lauren work on one of her patients and she didn’t even flinch. Lauren explained that different needles can be used for sensitivity but most people don’t feel anything. All needles are disposable and sealed in clean and sanitary packaging.
After talking with Lauren and doing a little research of my own there doesn’t seem to be much that acupuncture can’t help with: pain, stress, fertility, digestion, Crohn’s disease, insomnia, depression, lack of energy, migraines, emotional overload, boosting the immune system, and even hormonal imbalances such as menopause.
Unlike many western medicines, acupuncture works at treating the root of the problem as opposed to masking the root and putting a 'Band-Aid' on the situation. It can enable the body to heal itself by using Chi (pronounced Chee), which is the energy life force that runs through everything that is alive and living.
You may be thinking that you do not have any acute pain or health issues but Lauren suggests a routine maintenance session of acupuncture once a month to keep you feeling great and in balance.
Lauren loves to combine her work with guidance on health and nutrition; she can recommend nutritional options, supplements and herbs based on your needs. Lauren also offers B12 shots, which provide: energy, a weight loss boost and an immune system boost.
Another method of Chinese medicine that Lauren practices is, Cupping. Cupping became a popular detox promoted by Hollywood when celebrities started sporting the telltale circular marks of cupping. Gwyneth Paltrow showed up at a New York Film Premiere baring her circular marks and it hit the headlines. Regardless of Hollywood, this method has been around since ancient China! Cupping is like a reverse massage, instead of pushing into the body it pulls out. It can be used as an effective pain relief method and is great for detoxing.
